Don’t tell me that everybody has the skill for winning, because is not true. There are people who just can’t learn a certain gambling game and even if they learn or they think that they have learned it, they are not going to make a fortune out of it, they just simply don’t have the 6th sense for that game.

For example everybody likes poker but very few can play it as it should be played and for those people who simply can’t, there is always the slot machine or the “one armed bandit” as they also call it.

For this game you don’t need any special skills or you don’t need to hide your emotions, you just simply put a coin or a card in it and pull the lever, you can even close your eyes while doing it all.

The precursor of the modern slot machines goes back to the year 1891 when two gentlemen from New York City built a gambling machine with 5 drums in it, holding 50 cards and the whole game was based on poker. At that time, you couldn’t find a single bar in the city not having this machine. The player had to insert a coin and pull the lever hoping for a good poker hand. If they were lucky and a royal flush showed up, they had drinks or cigars from the bar but you could win with weaker combinations as well.

In 1887 the first one armed bandit was invented in the city of San Francisco, California. The machine was based on a much simpler automatic mechanism, having 3 drums and instead of the poker cards, the spinning reels contained 5 symbols- hearts, spades, diamonds, horseshoes and a liberty bell – which gave the name of the machine. The biggest win was generated by 3 bells in a row, the payout was like 10 nickels.

The first fully electromechanical slot machine was built in 1964 by an American corporation named Bally.

Since the early 90s you can play this game online, by accessing an online gambling or casino web site.
