Is there anybody out there who never played roulette in a land based or online casino? I don’t think so. Once you have entered a gambling hall I’m pretty sure that your eyes are going to jump on the roulette table…surrounded by many people just like you. But why is that game so attractive? The answer is simple: it’s easy to play, eye-catching and everybody wants to throw the little ball in a spinning wheel….and it might be a chance to win some money, as well.
Alright, a simple game, but who invented it?
Researchers say that the exact history of the game remains a mystery. Some say, that the game was invented by the Chinese and brought to Europe by the Dominican monks. Other say, that roulette was invented by a French mathematician in the early years of the 17th century. One thing is for sure though, the development of the game is somehow linked to the French. They wanted the game to be more winnable, and for that reason a “0” slot was introduced between the other numbers of the roulette wheel. Unfortunately they had to pass the whole contraption over to the Germans because at that time gambling was illegal all over France. The popularity of the game grew day after day in Germany and reached the borders of the United States in the early 1800s.
The Americans took over this game and added the “00” slot to the wheel, decreasing the chance of winnings and pushing the advantage to the house.
So basically there are two types of roulette, the European single “0” roulette and the American roulette.
Finally, the online version of the game was introduced on the internet in the middle 90s along with other popular gambling games as blackjack, poker, bingo and so on.
So you don’t have to waste your time in traffic jams trying to get to a land based casino, you can sit in your own comfortable chair and play this wonderful game of roulette on your personal computer. |
